Hear Our Voices 3

Hear Our Voices 3 Providing Direct Services for AANHPI Communities  June 6 6:00 PM ET

We are coming to the end of May AANHPI Heritage Month! We’ve experienced both highs and lows with celebrations and tragedies going on in our communities…
This is the third and final installment of the “Hear Our Voices” series, and we have inspiring leaders who will share their experiences with us. This series started during March, the first year anniversary of the Atlanta Spa Shootings. Our goal was to spotlight leaders in the private and public sectors, to use their voices to amplify their passions for their work, and share who they are as individuals. The conversations have been inspiring.
We will focus on those individuals and organizations who are providing direct service to our AANHPI communities.
I invite you to join us for the conversation.

Celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month with May Mondays!

We know this has been an incredibly difficult time for teachers. The educational system struggled to provide the resources and support teachers needed to address students’ academic, physical, and social-emotional needs, not to mention their own well-being. We are recognizing teachers and those who are doing great work while pivoting to the new norms.

Join us for a special panel discussion on May 2nd at 6-7 PM ET by focusing on the great work being done by Teach for America.

Teach for America is partnering with Donors Choose to highlight projects from our teachers as a lead-up to Teacher Appreciation Week! Teachers and educators are doing critical work against unprecedented barriers, and we’d love your support as well at this link : TFA-MadeForMore

Hear Our Voices 2

Hear Our Voices is a three-part conversation that started in March, as part of the commemoration of the Atlanta Spa Shootings due to anti-Asian violence. On a broader scale, it featured AAPI women who are leading organizations to support their communities. They also talked about their own self-care and how they are managing through these complex times. CAPAW and OCA Asian Pacific American Advocates are excited to co-host this event.

Part 2 of this conversation will feature a collective voice from the perspectives of Corporate, Community, Small Business and Non-Profit… and how these leaders are addressing violence and xenophobia in our communities and business. We will explore what it takes to make systemic changes and what ways everyone is contributing.

Healing Circle: Reflect, Honor & Remember: Atlanta March 16, 2021

As we approach the first anniversary of the March 16th Atlanta Spa Shootings, Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) women continue to experience violence and are re-traumatized.

The Center for Asian Pacific American Women and the New York Coalition of AAPI Churches are partnering together to create this brave, healing space for the New York AAPI women, who have faced tragedy after tragedy of our murdered and violated AAPI sisters. This will be a free online group where AAPI women can safely share and support one another with the guidance of a trained facilitator. If you need space where the beginning of your healing journey can take place, we welcome you.

HEAR OUR VOICES

We honored those individuals we lost on March 16, the one-year anniversary of the Atlanta Spa Shootings. We also lost Michelle Go, Christina Yuna Lee, and GuiYing Ma to senseless killings. The violence against Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs) continue to rise, According to Stop AAPI Hate, “AAPI Women Report More Harassment in Public Spaces.”
Using 10,152 hate incidents with information about gender (93.1% of all hate incidents), we provide the gender-specific descriptions of hate incidents for AAPI women, AAPI men, and AAPI non-binary people. Non-binary people include individuals who self-identified as gender nonbinary and gender nonconforming. Overall findings:

AAPI women report more harassment than AAPI men and AAPI non-binary people
AAPI non-binary people report more deliberate avoidance or shunning, being coughed at or spat on, denial of service, and online harassment than AAPI women and men.
A higher percentage of hate incidents experienced by AAPI women occurred in public streets compared to AAPI men and AAPI non-binary people.
Higher percentages of AAPI women and AAPI non-binary people identified gender/gender identity as one reason for discrimination compared to AAPI men.

It’s time to unite, be in solidarity and create a movement together. Join the conversation with these incredible leaders on March 24 at 3 PM ET on next steps.

Thank you to our community partner National ACE and OCA Asian Pacific American Advocates for collaborating with us and uplifting OUR communities.
